Story
Hi! Thanks for taking the time to visit my page.
I'm running the 2007 London Marathon (my very first marathon!) to raise money for Jesuit Refugee Service's refugee hardship fund.
JRS is dedicated to assisting destitute asylum seekers and refugees, and operates a hardship fund to provide basic necessities to those in need.
There are thousands of destitute refugees and asylum seekers in the UK ; men, women and families of all ages, who have applied for asylum and have been refused, and are unable to return home. They are not permitted to work, and are not entitled to benefits; most are deprived of money, food, shelter and healthcare. They have left their home country because it is too dangerous to continue living in--they may have been tortured or lost family and friends and have been witness to horrific atrocities--to be denied the chance to regain their humanity and rebuild their lives here in the UK.
JRS will provide travel expenses, so individuals can attend necessary appointments, hygiene packs containing soap and shampoo, and telephone cards. JRS also provides a supportive environment and compassion to those who need it most.
Many of you will know that refugee and asylum issues are very close to my heart; so I'm very proud to be running and raising funds for a cause that I truly believe in. Your donations will help where assistance is needed the most.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Jesuit Refugee Services will receive your money faster and, if you are a taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor me now!
Many thanks for your support...
See you at the finish line!!!
Marianne
