If you have a minute to read more, I would like to  share part of my application for the London Marathon with you as this is the reason I am running.......

"I have used your service - the helpline and the internet site because my father has prostate cancer that is now advanced.  I live in Wokingham and he lives in Santa Rosa, California so in order for me to help him I have used your resources.

For me the support that your organisation has provided is invaluable.  I find that in order for me to help him I need my own support and I try to learn as much about his treatment, the options and waht I can do to help him.  I do go back to visit him and have been with him through the early stage when I had to take him to the Emergency Room (A&E) when he had kidney failure.

The most important bit that your organisation has provided me is someone to talk to so I can make my current and future plans.  My best friend died of cancer when she was 37 and as lived near her I was able to help her every day including being with her on the day she died.  I learned that it was imporatnt to spend the quality time you have with people early on it he diagnosis.  This way you can enjoy your time with them and have good memories.  I think because of my experience and what you hear in the media you immediately think when someone has cancer they will get very sick and die.  But your helpline has taken me through the process and allowed me not to panic and has allowed me to take a measured approach to his illness.

I do feel I "owe" you the support for all you have done for me and would really like to have this opportunity to give back to you."
