Escambray Encounter - Cuba 2013 · 15 August 2012
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Here is a little bit about my story:
I was diagnosed with Autoimmune hepatatis (AIH) last year, which is a form of liver disease where the body attacks the liver. The cause of it is unknown and affects more women the men. I was off work for over 3 weeks when I became jaundice and fatigued, which resulted in a week's stay at the Bristol Royal Infirmary where I was looked after by the wonderful staff there. After a liver biopsy and some time on steroids, the diagnosis was made, and I'm currently on medication to bring my liver function tests under control. This in itself has presented its own challenges, but thankfully my medication dose has reduced which has made a difference.
I have learnt some valuble lessons along the way, and really have learnt who my friends are. My outlook on life has changed, and now am a much more positive person than before I developed AIH. I really feel strongly about raising this amount of money, because it is a rare condition and the British Liver Trust is the only charity of its kind in the UK. I was lucky enough to come across an AIH online support group, which has been amazing and really useful at times, but had I not found this, I don't think I would be in the place I am now.
Doing this trek in Cuba is my way to help other people with this condition and those who may have it in the future. I am grateful for waht anyone feels they can or want to give, as (to coin Tesco's phrase) every little helps.
Thank you for taking the time to look at my page and make a donation.
