Story
Hi
In April 2010 our wonderful wife, Mum, Nanny and friend Jean was diagnosed with malignant melanoma, and died fifteen weeks later on 20th July, at the age of 62.
We miss her every day.
We have decided to honour Jean's memory by raising money for Cancer Research UK through a series of events in 2011.
Andy (Jean's husband) and Mark (Jean's son) will be:
- running the Edinburgh Marathon on 22nd May
- swimming a mile across Windermere in the Great North Swim in June
- running the Great North Run half-marathon on 18th September - the 1st birthday of Toby, the grandson Jean just missed out on meeting
- Completing various 10K runs
- Helen (Jean's daughter-in-law) and Jessica Kirk will also be running the Great North Run
- Dawn and Debbie (Jean's daughters) will be completing 5K and 10K runs
- In July, to mark the anniversary of losing Jean, Mark is going to run from coast to coast across Northern England over five days, covering more than a marathon a day, with cycle support from Andy
- Plus, lots of other events throughout the year by family and friends of the family: 5ks, 10ks, and anything else we can think of!
Those of you who know us will know that we are hardly typical long-distance-event material, and that this is going to hurt! And we are sure that Jean would be laughing her socks off at this idea.
You can follow our progress by joining our facebook group: just look for the Jean Anderson Memorial Fundraising Page.
We have set an ambitious fundraising target of three thousand pounds, but are determined to do all we can to meet this amount to help Cancer Research UK to continue to find new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer.
We would be hugely grateful for any support you could give us in meeting this total in memory of the wonderful Jean.
With sincere and heartfelt thanks and best wishes
Andy, Mark, Dawn, Debbie, Lloyd, Helen, Oliver, Maddie and Toby xx
