Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I will be doing the London to Paris bike ride from June 13th to June 17th in memory of my dad Trevor Vaughan Arnold and in aid of St Barnabas Hospice who cared for him in such a special way in his last few days. It has been a decade since our family lost a wonderful son, father, husband, brother and friend and in that time so much has changed but the fundamentals remain. We remember you, we love you, we miss you.
I promised myself I would always support St Barnabas in whatever way possible, the care they have provided and continue to provide to countless people is so amazing and inspirational. I will be funding the whole cost of this event myself so that all money rasied will be going direct to St Barnabas, who are predominantly funded through donations from the local community and businesses. As a novice cyclist and someone who is normally allergic to exercise this is a great personal challenge for me, but it is such a small thing to do when you have experienced first hand the amazing care the staff at St Barnabas provide in such difficult circumstances they are inspirational!
St Barnabas House offers specialist palliative care to patients, their families and carers living in Worthing and the surrounding area, first opened in 1973 by a local GP, Dr Francis Gusterson. They offer care and support to peole in the Worthing, Arun, Adur and Henfiled areas. It costs around £4 million each year to provide the hospice's services and patients are never charged for their care. Only a small part of these costs are funded by the government. For the remainder, they rely on the generosity, help and support of the local community.
My target to raise at least £2000 can help in the following ways
- £475 pays for a patient to stay at the In-Patient Unit for 24 hours.
- £190 covers the cost for a patient to attend one Day Hospice session.
