Swanley To Lands End · 27 April 2013

Myeloma UK is the only organisation in the UK dealing exclusively with myeloma. We provide information and support to patients and their families and help myeloma patients live longer, with a better quality of life by accelerating the discovery, development of and access to new treatments.

Story

Hi there...thanks for visiting my Just Giving Page...let me tell you why I have asked for your interest.

My good friend......I shall call her Michelle....because that is her name, was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma which is a bone marrow cancer.

In basic terms this horrible illness affects the bones making them very weak and prone to fracturing creating terrible pain and discomfort......it is extremely aggressive and Michelle has required all of the usual cancer treatments and the incredible 'Stem Cell ' treatment which required her to be in hospital isolation over the christmas/new year period for several weeks. Fortunately she is a tough old bird and she has coped as well as anybody could in the circumstances.......Michelle is 45.

Therefore, a group of us led by Michelles partner John, have decided to try and raise funds to donate to Myeloma UK who do a wonderful job in helping sufferers.....this illness is relatively rare and receives no government funding.

The challenge we have set ourselves is to ride from Swanley in Kent to Lands End Cornwall....a distance in excess of 400 miles in a week.

We are the Myeloma Musketeers and our team is:

John 'Genghis' Bailey.........much feared leader ( we have to do what he says)

Mike 'Captain' Ainscombe ....second in command, head of logistics.

Robbie 'The Stoker' Curwood.....just keeps on pedalling.

Tony 'Italian Tony' Liddell......even looks good in Lycra.

Steve 'Hemmo' Hemmings ......also known as Gadget Boy , he has every known bike accessory.

Mark 'Cava' Cavilla......aching all over and loving every minute of it.

This team has been in training three times a week since early January....our first ride was 5 miles and this weekend we did just shy of sixty miles, and it's great to finally be riding in some sun rather than snow, sleet and rain that we all had until recently.......and how lucky are we to be well enough to do it ?

If anybody can manage any ( and i do mean any ) donation in these difficult times that would be wonderful, but regardless of donations please log in for updates.....it's now four weeks away !!!!!

Love you all
