Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I recently returned to work to hear an inspirational story of Luke Turnbull my friend's son who was rushed into hospital following prollonged collapse caused by low blood glucose levels related to his diabetes. His brain had almost shut down and was kept alive only due to the skill and dedication of the teams in Resussitation and Intensive Care (ICU). In a Coma for four days, the outlook initially seemed bleek due to damage caused to the brain. Luke was not expected to live, and if he did it was not clear what brain function he would have. However after four days he opened his eyes, then was taken off the respirator. After six days he was able to speak and was transferred to a medical ward. Luke has continued to improve rapidly and left Hospital after two and a half weeks. He is now home and doing very well recovering from the brain injury. He is alive and recovering with the realistic prospect of a normal life due to the care he received at Lancaster Royal Infirmary (RLI), particularly the first few hours after admission in ICU.

I'm doing the IRONMAN UK triathlon on the 22nd July 2012 and after hearing Lukes story I thought what better excuse to raise some money for the charity of Lukes choice.

The IRONMAN triathlon is the ultimate triathlon consisting of:

2.4 mile SWIM

112 mile BIKE

26.2 mile RUN

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
