We believe every blind veteran should be able to lead the life they choose. At Blind Veterans UK we’re one, transformational team. We provide rehabilitation, training, practical advice and emotional support. Together we can help rebuild lives.

Story

The Royal Welsh, who have recently returned from a demanding tour of Afghanistan.  You will probably be aware from our coverage in the media that we have had significant success during our time over there and brought about a renewed confidence in the people of Afghanistan.  However, this has not come without incident and unfortunately at some cost to the Battalion During the last six months we lost one of our young Fusiliers and sustained a number of serious casualties, the majority of which will return to full operational duty.

Over the next few months as part of our homecoming to Chester and Wales, the Battalion wants to do as much as they can to support those families and young lives that have been affected by these incidents.  As a small part of helping a team from the Battalion will run from Chester to Cardiff in order to raise money for two very important Service charities.  Firstly the Army Benevolent Fund, the Soldiers Charity; and secondly St Dunstan’s, the Service Charity for the blind and the visually impaired.

The aim of the challenge is for a team of 30 officers and soldiers to run at least one half marathon each per day for five days, starting from the Dale Barracks in Chester on the Monday 22nd June and finishing at National Armed Forces Day in Cardiff Bay on Saturday 26th June.  The route is a total of 224 miles and will pass through a number of major places (Chester, Newtown, Brecon, Llanelli, Swansea, Bridgend and Cardiff).

In order to help this event get off the ground we are looking for support from businesses in the local community in Chester and Wales.  I hope that you see this as an opportunity to become involved with two very worthwhile charities and any help you can provide will be appreciated.

If you are able to help, or wish to donate, or even just call to pass on your support then please write to me at the address above or call on one of the numbers.

I thank you for taking the time to read this letter and hope you are able to help with are our charity run.

With kind regards,
