Story

Raising money for Cancer Research UK

Completed on the 21st July @ 1:50pm, 14 1/2 days of walking.

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. I've given to Cancer Research every month for several years now, but I thought what more could I do?

The Challenge!

Well here it is, put myself against one of the longest trails in the UK, The Pennine Way, some 270 miles long. I'll be funding the entire trip and expenses, so all money raised will goto Cancer Research.

I have trouble getting up and walking from my desk, nevermind attempting to walk some 270 miles of rough terrain. The walk will begin in Edale (near Manchester) on the 7th July, and end in Kirk Yetholm (Scotland). Normally this should be done over a 19 day period, walking around 5-8 hours a day, but i'll be pushing to complete this in 14 days, meaning I have to cover around 20 miles a day - no mean feat.

Why am I doing this?

I'm walking to raise money for a charity that means a great deal to me, and has saved my life, Cancer Research.

About The Pennine Way Trail
Edale to Kirk Yetholm 429km/268 miles

The Pennine Way, following a high and wild course along the backbone of England from the Peak District to the Scottish borders, is one of Britain's best known and toughest long distance trails.

Most people take two to three weeks to complete the walk; the official guide estimates 19 days as a reasonable figure. Although the route is officially 412km in length, you will probably walk a little further in total.

News

23/07/07 - A BIG thank you to everyone that pledged their support. Myself and Andy completed the Pennine Way on the 21st July @ 1:50pm, entering The Border Hotel to a singing crowd as we opened the door... in total taking some 14 1/2 days to complete the epic trek... we threw off our wet boots and got blinding drunk and celebrated with all the people we'd met on the way.

This has been the biggest challenge of my life, one which we both doubted we would complete, the first week took a lot out of us, we picked up injuries, were physically and mentally exhausted.. After walking for the last 4 days in soaking boots, due to the constant rain, it was nice to throw off our boots.. and take in the local delights!
If anyone would like to see the photo's, or stay in touch, you can contact me on mark@weblusion.co.uk

17/06/07 - Thank you to everyone for their donations and support, there is around £500 pledged offline so far, hopefully we can smash the £1,500 target.

25/05/07 - After a chat with the directors, Weblusion Ltd agreed to sponsor £200 and added a banner to their websites new-homes-in.com and new-houses-in.co.uk, thank you.
