On the 25th of April I am going to have a go at the Virgin London Marathon. This is my first marathon, and I am delighted that it is for the KCH Limb Reconstruction Trust. The charity is going from strength to strength at the moment, and there is so much more we can do to support our our patients going through limb reconstruction.

Have been doing 12-20k runs at weekends since Xmas. Have done 28k both of the last two weekends, in about 3 hours, and some cycling too, so should be OK, but 43k is a lot more... Will try running in to work a couple of times (10k), maybe home too! Glad I am on my taper now though. Daniel Baron tells me it is unwise to go skiing the week before. Not good with wisdom...

Will be running in surgical scrubs, with KLRT logo. Look out for me! Just divide 260mins by 26 miles and I am starting from the red start at about 10am, so you should be able to calculate where I should be and when! Tell me where you are beforehand and I will look out for you...

Fundraising going really well now, so thank you all very much. The more we get, the more likely we are to get more places for runners next year. The generosity so far has been amazing.

Here is an interview from my wife to let you know the level of support I am getting at home...

PERSONAL INTERVIEW WITH MARK PHILLIPS

(MARATHON RUNNER by night… apparently)

By Pippa Phillips (wife)

P          So Mark, you’re running the London marathon in 2 weeks

M         yeh

P          Aren’t you meant to be training or something?

M         Yeh

P          What’s this ‘by night’ rubbish ?

M         Umm It sounded good. Karen said so anyway.

P          Who are these limb reconstruction patients?

M         My patients

P          Oh . I get it now. A charity to support your patients?

M         Not just my patients. All the patients in the department undergoing limb re-construction. It often follows major trauma and is a long and painful process involving enormous hardship for patients and their relatives…blah blah

P          Victims of orthopaedic surgeons?

M         yes. Well we don’t think of it quite like that…

P          I bet…So how do you think you’ll do?

M         Well my leg hurts quite a bit when I run

P          Yes. You have mentioned it . (A thousand times). Why are you doing it then?

M         Well. The place came up and I sort of volunteered….

P          Well. I’ll put your advert thing up in the tea-room. You’re pretty blurry in the picture though

M         You took the photo

P          Yeh. But you kept moving

M         I was running…

P          Just be grateful it isn’t the stupid one of you wearing the blue cap

M         OK. Thanks, Pip

Couldn't do it without them.
