I've done it! In 4 hours, 20 minutes and 21 seconds. I almost broke the 4 hour barrier, but at 22 miles or so I just ran out of energy and walked for a mile and a half or so. If you want to check out how I did you can go to: http://results-2008.london-marathon.co.uk/index.php?lastname=Rodger&firstname=Mark&club=&gender=&nation=&event_id=MAS&position=&split=FINISHNET&Submit=show+results+%3E%3E&a=d&o=s&start_no=9740&ostart_no= It's not too late to sponsor me! Go it for... Love, Mark Hello!
Well, I know this is last minute but I figure if I'm going to do something as stupid as running a marathon I may as well do it for a purpose more than just wanting fulfilling an ambition. Besides, when I really feel like dropping out of the race, the thought of children living in poverty across the world and me being able to do something help will keep me going!
The charity I'm running for is called Compassion UK. They are great. I've been sponsoring a child through them for over five years now. It only costs £18 a month which helps provide for their healthcare, education, vocational training, social and emotional care and spiritual care for their child. The money reaches the child through programme activities in the Compassion centre, which the child attends.
What's more is that you get to write to the child - and what's even better - they write back to you (at first my child couldn't write, so his mother wrote to me for him, but after a while he began to write to me). It's so amazing seeing them grow up and seeing photos of them every year or so.
So, you could do one of two things. One, sponsor me! Or two, why not sponsor a child yourself? (It's such an amazing thing to do. You will not regret it.
Love,
Mark
