Ironman UK involves a 2.4mile swim, 112mile bike ride and then running a full 26.2 mile marathon.

Here's the best bit; Ironman UK is widely regarded as one of the toughest courses in the world due to the endless Dorset hills. There's 7600 feet of climbing on the bike, and 2600 feet during the run. Ouch.

That's a bit like running the London marathon after riding your bike from Birmingham to get to the start line. Except that during the bike leg, you ride up and down the height of both Snowdon and Ben Nevis, and during the run you go (not quite all the way) up and down the height of Scafell. Oh yeah, forgot to mention the equivalent of 152 lengths of your local swimming pool just to warm up. That's got to be worth a few quid now, hasn't it?

I was fortunate to survive my encounter with lymphoma though many of those that I had treatment with did not.
