The NKF is a National charity that provides support and information to patients, families and healthcare professionals affected by kidney disease. Our aim is to improve the quality of life and support kidney patients and their families as well as lobby for renal improvements.

Story

As a result of birth complications, Milly was born with acute kidney failure, and we very nearly didn’t get to keep our beautiful baby girl. But Milly is a fighter. And with the amazing care she received from the doctors & nurses she made it. As a result, Milly lived with chronic kidney disease and by aged 15 required a kidney transplant. After nearly a year of tests and preparation, just before Christmas 2018, Milly’s Dad donated one of his kidneys to her. The year that followed was difficult, and there were numerous complications which required further hospitalisations. Milly faced all of this with determination, courage and a smile (and still managed to take and pass her GCSEs!). Milly is now stable and her kidney is working well. As is her Dad! She has the chance to live a normal, healthy life; and we are ever grateful to her Dad for this gift of life that he gave her.

This has been a challenging journey that we have been on together as a family. Now Milly and me plan to face another challenge together - to trek up Ben Nevis -  in order to raise money for The National Kidney Federation.  Please support us by donating whatever you can to help their invaluable work.

Thank you

Steph & Milly xx
