As you are probably aware, my wee Marley had to be put to sleep on the 15th March from Grass sickness. The wee guy put up the best fight he could but unfortunately the odds were stacked firmly against him from the outset. Due to the nature of this disease, only very carefully selected chronic cases are chosen for rehabilitation. There is no option for acute or sub-acute cases other than euthanasia

At first Marley was put into this catagory. the vets and grass sickness nurse at the Royal Dick Vets put their all into saving the wee guy. On investigation after he had to be put to sleep it was discovered that in fact he was suffering from sub-acute grass sickness therefore there was no chance of him surviving no matter what was done.

I miss the wee guy so so much and so does everyone at the yard. I hope that his death will help to raise awareness and loads of money to help the Equine Grass Sickness fund further their research into why this disease occurs. At present there is no known cause, cure or treatment. Many institutes are in the investigative process and with all our help, hopefully, one day they will infact be able to vaccinate our much loved equine friends!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of my dear horsey friends for their support. Thanks to the Vet's at Clyde Vets, especially louise and austin who were absolutely fantastic. To all who were involved nursing the wee guy at the Royal Dick, thank you, you tried your best to win an impossible fight. The Grass sickness Fund for providing such caring and knowledgeable nurses.

For further information please visit the Equine Grass Sickness Fund website.

On 01/05/10 over 20 people and I are taking part in a 10mile sponsored walk in aid of Grass Sickness, one of which is dressing up as a horse!!! I have raffle tiockets for sale at only £1 per strip (not that kinda strip, u'd pay me to put the clothes back on!), fabulous prizes!!! For tickets just give me a call or pop in to the shop!

We have just completed our walk today!!! The rain even stayed off! It was great fun. A big thankyou to every1 who took part today whether walking or helping out at the yard. Our efforts have raised £1100 so far and thats not all the sponsorship collected. Welldone every1, Marley would be so proud.

So please dig deep and donate now. Many thanks Claire & Marley x x
