Great Wall of China Trek · 9 October 2010

Hoylake Cottage is a valued community charitable trust that provides high quality care to older people and those with dementia. We embrace the fundamental principles of good practice, active living, independence and freedom of choice, support for families and carers and investment in staff.

Story

Thank you for taking time to visit my web page!

I am a registered nurse working at Hoylake Cottage. In the nursing area where I am employed we regularly have elderly people admitted for a short stay to provide respite for those who look after them at home. The carer at home may be elderly too and at the poinl of exhaustion. It is wonderful to see the difference a period of rest can make; time to catch up with their own needs ,meet with friends, undisturbed sleep - things we take for granted .
The  daycare centre provides a regular break for clients and their carers but with increasing demands and physical care needs new facilities are much needed as current facilities are outdated and inadequate. So what am I going to do to help?

As part of the fundraising efforts  I am heading off to Beijing in October this year where I begin my 5 day challenge treking along the Great Wall of China!  Exiting and probably a little mad but I tell others you are never too old for a challenge (certainly not at 50!)

Now I need to dust off my boots and climb a few hills on a seriously regular basis as I don't think this will be a 'walk in the park'

Any donation towards this great cause will be enormously appreciated. Thanks again .
