Story
On August 18th, I am going to be part of a team of 5 intrepid volunteers from Marrow groups across the country who will attempt to cycle across England; from it's most easterly point at Lowestoft to its most westerly at Lands End. As we travel along the 500 miles between, we will be raising money for the charity Anthony Nolan, whilst also raising awareness of the work they do and hopefully recruiting people to the stem cell donor register at organised recruitment events along the way.
Marrow is the student led branch of the charity Anthony Nolan, who run the stem cell donor register, providing those with life threatening blood cancers, such as leukaemia, the opportunity of finding someone who is an exact tissue match and can offer them a donation of stem cells. Currently, only 50% of people who need a donation are able to find one on the register, so we always need more people to sign up!
However, it costs over £100 to sign up each person to the register, saving lives isn't a cheap business it seems, so every penny that you can donate will go on to make a massive difference to those that Anthony Nolan helps.
The team consists of Alex and Laura from Leeds Marrow, Nick from Bristol Marrow and Lucy and Steph from UCL Marrow. We plan the trip to take around 12 days, with 3 recruitment events planned in Bury St Edmonds, Olney and Bude
