UPDATE:
For those that sponsored me - THANK YOU! This money will directly and positively affect the lives of cancer sufferers - I am SO grateful for your help.
I'm not QUITE at my target - I'd still like to get to the £1,000.00 mark. Therefore I've agreed to take part in another event - this time SNOWDON ROCKS. I won't be running it this time, but climbing it with Mike Peters and a bunch of other musicians. Again, it's all going to the charity, so will help cancer sufferers - something that is so important.
PLEASE dig deep and help me reach my goal of £1,000 by the 14th August.
Thanks all
Martin

So, what am I doing, and why...?
Well, as lot of you know, my Mother lost a long battle against cancer a long time ago - it still affects me, to this day.... and there have been SO many times where I have had a phone call or email telling me that another friend has contracted cancer in one way or another. Too many to list. it's truly awful. Without doubt, if I were to ask you to name a few friends that have had cancer - you'd be able to without stopping to think. It affects everyone, and... it's orrible.
Now, I am a bit of a fan of a musician called Nick Harper. His mother also passed away due to cancer - and with Mike Peters (yep, that chap from the Alarm) and a gaggle of other fantastic musicians, they've formed Love Hope Strength. This charity raises money to donate to various centres to help fight this illness. They've climbed Kilimanjaro, gone to Everest's basecamp, climbed Mount Fuji, and walked to Machu Picchu, to name but a few.
On July 9th this year, they're doing a smaller event, which is a 20 mile trek around Avebury, Wiltshire.
Now, those of you that know me, know that walking 20 miles is something that's not going to push me too much - I know you'd be happy to sponsor me, but to be honest- I want to raise a bit more for the charity than that. So I've contacted the charity, and offered to run it. It's likely to be very hot, dusty, and uncomfortable. To make it worse, I'll be running in the knowledge that I have no chance of spending the day with one of my musical idols - which I could have had, had I walked it.
All that means I'm putting myself out here - massively. So please do me a favour and sponsor me as much as you can manage. Do it in the memory of someone you loved and lost, or are lucky enough to still have.
Thanks for reading this - to find out more about the cause, please head over to http://www.lovehopestrength.co.uk/ - but not until you've sponsored me!!
Cheers all.
M
