Yes, you have seen right, the words Marathon and Martin in the same sentence!

I have decided that I am going to run a marathon for a great charity that I'm pretty sure you probably havent heard of before. Cystinosis Foundation UK  http://www.cystinosis.org.uk/ Cystinosis is a rare inherited disease occurring in about 1 in 200,000 births within developed countries. It occurs when the mechanism removing excess cystine (an amino acid) breaks down. This initially leads to kidney problems and progresses to other parts of the body, including the thyroid gland, eyes and liver. Impaired growth is yet another symptom of the condition.

So this charity needs as much awareness as it does money to help provide research for Cystinosis sufferers. I only found out about this charity as friends of ours little boy, Elliot who is 18 months old has recently been diagnosed with the condition. After finding out about it I thought it was important to raise awareness and to help in anyway possible for the charity to raise what is in comparison to other charites a very small target of £300,000.

The charity are currently aiming to produce a drug for the condition that requires administering twice a day as opposed to the current 6 hourly requirement. So you can see they really need as much money as you can give!

I have been very lucky and have a place on the London Marathon! I've only ever done a 10K run before, so this is a big step (well a few more big steps), but its for a great cause so I know it'll all be worth it! Look out for news on some 10k's and a half marathon i'll be running on my steps towards the marathon itself.

So dig deep people and give as much as you can and dont forget to Gift Aid it!
