!! STOP PRESS !! 24TH AUGUST 2008 I REACHED THE EIFFEL TOWER AND COMPLETED THE RIDE. THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR ENCOURAGEMENT AND SUPPORT. PLEASE GIVE A NUDGE TO THOSE WHO SAID THEY'D DONATE TO THE CAUSE, AND SEE IF WE CAN ADD A FEW POUNDS TO THE MAGNIFICENT SUM DONATED BY YOU ALL SO FAR !! Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
3 years ago, my brother Michael died of cancer. My family misses him each day, and hopes that your family is spared similar sadness. For that reason, I am raising funds for Bowel Cancer UK by cycling from London to Paris this summer.
I will be testing my poor middle-aged fitness levels(1), the roadworthiness of my bike(2), and the skill of the surgeon who managed to screw my left ankle back together last year(3). If the cause isn't worthy enough, then a donation for the comedy content of my efforts is surely worthwhile.
I will be cycling into France on what would have been Michael's 48th birthday and arriving in Paris a couple of days before my 44th birthday. There is a small matter of 320km separating aspiration from a triple celebration: Michael's birthday, completion of an endeavour of which Michael would have approved, and all the birthdays of you and yours to come that the work of Bowel Cancer UK aims to help you keep celebrating.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Bowel Cancer UK gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation. I've been overwhelmed by your support so far. I've now increased the target three times, thanks to your generosity - thank-you!! I've raised the target again in the hope that we can do even more for Bowel Cancer UK.
So please sponsor me now - you know it makes sense! Updates: (1) - I've already been taken into hospital in the back of an ambulance :-| (2) - the bike has been for surgery and is now feeling better (3) - the ankle's fine...just the rest of me that's suffering :-)
