My story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

I am a Police Officer with the Thames Valley Police working in the Operations and Events department, in this capacity, I organised the Police logistics for Sir Ian's walk in Windsor.

On the 22 October 2007 I was involved in a collision on my pedal cycle and as a result my right leg was amputated below the knee.  I spent 5 weeks in hospital followed by 5 months at home recuperating with Physio three times a week. At the beginning of April I received a prosthetic limb and have been working hard to walk 'normally' again. I have been nominated by my Sergeant to participate in this event (as well as organise Police logistics!!).  I was reluctant at first but having thought about it I would like to do it for three reasons:

1. My Father died of Leukaemia and Leukaemia Research is a charity close to my heart.

2. To make this a target for my rehabilitation, to do the 7.3 mile walk on my prosthetic leg!

3. The event will take place 11 days short of one year after my accident, so I figure that’s close enough to be an anniversary!!

I have now completed the walk, I had to ease back after three miles and let Sir Ian and the other celebrities pull away from me. I did manage to finish only eight minutes after ‘Beefy’ so I was very pleased with that. I was absolutely overwhelmed by the amount of support from Family, Friends and Colleagues on the day. It was the thought of all these people at the finish line that kept me going when I was offered lifts in the support vehicles; I was absolutely determined to do it under my own steam. I am very grateful to my brother, Michael, who walked along side me and completed the walk as well. As I have stated part of the reasons for doing this walk was because my own Father died of Leukaemia in 2004 and my Mum summoned it up on the day when she said ‘Your Dad would have been so proud of you’ There are too many people to mention individually for their support but I do need to mention my partner, Jayne, who has really helped me through quite a difficult period in my life. She has helped me no end with the training and build up to the walk -Thank You!

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Leukaemia Research gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

Although I have completed the walk you can continue to sponsor me until 11 January 2009!
