UPDATE -29/11/07 WEIGHT 15 STONE  3 LBS

STARTING WEIGHT 17 STONE 6 3/4 LBS - 03/09/07 9 AM

TARGET  - LOSE TWO STONE BEFORE CHRISTMAS

***TARGET ACHIEVED*** PLEASE DIG DEEP AND HELP ME ACHIEVE MY FUNDRAISING TARGET!

Some of you may have noticed that a combination of a love of food and a lack of any serious exercise since giving up playing competitive badminton has resulted in me carrying a few unwanted pounds of extra baggage.

The time has come to do something about it. My long-term goal is to lose c.3 stone with a short-term aim of 2 stone by Christmas. As an extra incentive (aside from the obvious health benefits) I decided to try to raise some well deserved cash for the RSPB.

I don't intend to follow any fad diets just eat healthier, in moderation and exercise more. I intend to start on Monday 3rd September when I'll do a weigh-in at the office. I'll then post my starting weight.

Why am I interested in raising funds for the RSPB?

The RSPB promotes conservation for wildlife (not just birds) and their habitats.

The RSPB is an organisation that I have been involved with for over 30 years. During my school years I was a member of the junior section of the RSPB, then called the Young Ornithologists Club now more trendily entitled (and far easier to spell)  'Wildlife Explorers'. More recently I have enjoyed being an active member of the local RSPB Group (www.southendrspb.co.uk) attending local field trips and coach trips to RSPB reserves further afield. The RSPB has a growing presence in my home area of South Essex, buying land to create new reserves along the north side of Thames Estuary ensuring that talk of building thousands of homes along the Thames does not come at the expense of our wild places and wildlife. Both myself and my son have enjoyed volunteering our help at various events, from badge-making and building nestboxes to taking groups on guided walks to show them the local wildlife.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: RSPB will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please sponsor me now!

Many thanks for your support.
