Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

As you can see I have managed to secure a place in the 2009 London Marathon - sadly not within the elite men but in amongst the tens of thousands of runners taking the opportunity to raise money for a chosen charity.  My goal is to support the work of the Aplastic Anaemia Trust who are an organisation dedicated to funding support and research into the treatment of this rare bone marrow disease.  Basically Aplastic Aneamia is the failure of the bone marrow and its ability to produce platelets along with red and white blood cells.  The results of this can be devasting and sufferers are always susceptible to infection, excessive bleeding and bruising.

The only effective cure for AA is for a bone marrow transplant from a suitable donor otherwise it is "managed" though regular hospital visits for blood transfusions and anti-biotics.  My quest, with your help is to support this charity who are currently helping a friend's daughter - Katie, a 4 year old girl who through sheer bad luck has AA.  Katie has fortunately just undergone her donor treatment but still has a long battle to ensure the transplant is successful through ongoing treatment.  As you can appreciate this is all pretty distressing for Katie and her family who spend most of their time at the hospital. If you would like to find out more about AA and the work of the Trust more details are available at www.theaat.org.uk
If you would like to sponsor me I would really appreciate your help and donation!

Thanks for your support
