Update: It was a great race and I broke my personal best time with an extremely surprising 1hr 47m 20s - Good that the 1h 50 barrier has been passed but the even more challenging 1hr 45 is now in sight! I also beat the doctors (but only just!) as well as the fundraising target - so a good result all round really!
You may be aware that I lost my Father to Pancreatic Cancer in 1999 and I am pleased to be running the Reading Half Marathon this year to raise funds for Pancreatic Cancer UK.
The charity is based in Emmer Green (just down the road from Caversham) and GPs from my surgery are closely involved with the charity and are also running the race.
I've got two objectives. The first is that I would love to raise £1,000 from sponsorship, and Clare and I will match the total amount sponsored up to £1,000 - so that's an overall target of £2,000. The second is to beat the Emmer Green doctors! That's going to be more of a challenge as they are quite a quick bunch!
Thank you for visiting this page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online.
I am assured that donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Pancreatic Cancer UK will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. (plus, if you are an upper rate tax payer, you can reclaim the difference between the basic rate and upper rate of tax - just enter the amount given in the 'Gift aid donations' box on your tax return - if you donate before April 5 you'll get the tax refund this year!)
Many thanks for your support. Martin
