Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

I am cycling from London to Paris from 9-13 September 2009 -
Four days cycling - 240 miles. Departing early Wednesday, cycling from London to Portsmouth, taking an overnight sleeper-ferry to Caen, and on to Paris via the beautiful  Normandy countryside with two overnight stops. I have chosen to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation and my target is to raise at least £1,200 (please note - £600 of this is contributing to the cost of the trip and the organising organisation, Actionchallenge.com) - so I am really looking to raise this target substantially.  I have always cycled and am going to challenge myself on a folding bike.

Please support me in my quest and through that the British Heart Foundation in their valuable work. If you have any questions about how my preparation is going, you can email me at martin.heuter@yahoo.co.uk.

update mid May 09:  training is going well, have done some hill cycling (up to British Camp from Malvern Link, blimey, hope the real thing isn't THAT steep ...).  2-3 times per week it's a 15 mile round trip on my way to/from work.  Saddle is making suspicious noises so will take the folder in for a checkover this coming week.  Fundraising off-line is going well, will have to do more though.  Have bought an old road bike on ebay to do some serious miles over the coming weeks.  Lots of comments about "growing old disgracefully" ...

update late May 09: training still going well, having a bit of a saga with a road bike which I decided to buy off ebay ...  Delivery proofs to be a tad difficult.  This takes me back to when I was in my teens and had my first road bike which I loved - for 3 weeks and then it got stolen.  This one will be for the longer rides during my training programme (there comes the time when limiting myself to 20mph or so becomes a tad boring).  Have had quite a bit of off-line donations, bringing that fundraising target more within reach.

20th August - things are hotting up.  My training is on schedule (though not using the actionchallenge approach), am cyclling now 3x/week 35 miles to and from work (still have to find the shower in our building).  Booked bike in for final service and spending a bit of money on equipment.  Raised £160 offline at a motorcycle weekend, which bumped up my tally considerably.

28th August - two weekends to go.  Will do my last long ride this weekend, bought a new saddle as the standard one was to standard for me.  Managed to get £100 sponsorship from a company I have contact with, thanks iNovem !!!  Need to sort out last details (i.e. where to stay how to get there).

Thanks in advance.
