I would like to say a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone that sponsored me and supported me in what has been a hard few months of training. It is still not too late to sponsor me if you have not already done so. I completed the course in 3 hrs 27 mins and 17 secs, a time that I wanted to achieve. The day and race itself were amazing, such amazing support from the crowds even when it was raining. Without such support it would have made it all much more difficult. It is now Tuesday 15th April and my legs are still sore, probably more so than Sunday afternoon. Once up and around I am hobbling, but stairs are my major problem at the moment (I know how the Darleks felt now !!!!!!). Anyway, another BIG THANK YOU to all that sponsored me and the other guys that ran and you have each helped Wishes 4 Kids grant even more wishes. THANK YOU! Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me now. It only takes a minute. Please then send this link to everyone you know. Sunday 13th April. Just another Sunday for most, but for more than 30,000 people and I it will be a HUGE day. Why? The London Marathon and I am running it. Why? For those of you that know me, I was widowed in November 2004 and I decided that something positive should come out of my wife's tragic death. So, I approached a local Leicester-based charity - Wishes 4 Kids and they agreed to set up a fund in my late wife's name. Hence the "Laura Hulbert Fund for Wishes 4 Kids" was started. Over the last 3 years mine and Laura's friends, family and I have completed various fundraising events to help raise money for the fund. These have ranged from 11 of us completing a half marathon, 9 people completing a sky dive and Rob Mark (Laura's brother) completing a cycle ride from Leicester to Hunstanton (thanks Rob!). Well no-one was brave (or stupid) enough to take on the London Marathon so this year I am on my own. Wishes 4 Kids is a Leicester based charity, run by a handful of amazing people who rely solely on fundraising and donations to grant the wishes of children. The average wish costs about £700 so I am hoping to be able to raise at least enough money for 2 wishes to be granted (dig deep folks). The details to the left of this page describes the valuable work that Wishes 4 Kids does and if you want to know more then please click on the link below. www.wishes4kids.co.uk Wishes 4 Kids are holding a two week campaign of "orange" fundraising in March 2008 and due to this it was decided that we would complete the London Marathon in orange running kit (my idea so apologies to the other runners who also have to wear them). Kindly, the brightest orange running vests and shorts have been donated. So if you are sat in your warm comfortable armchair (or bed as it's Sunday morning) on 13th April 2008 and you see any runners in bright orange struggling to stand, let alone run, then please think of us and Wishes 4 Kids and sponsor us a little more.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Wishes 4 Kids will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor me now! Please then pass the link of this page to everyone you know.
Many thanks for your support from Laura's family, Wishes 4 Kids and myself. Martin Hulbert
