Story

Since London as I was trained for the distance, on Sunday 18 May I completed the Halstead Marathon, all 26.2 miles not in a great time but I did finish. Lots of hills!!

Running the marathon was going well then at the 24 mile marker disaster strikes (yes 2 miles from the end) and I collapse from heat exhaustion I am told - I am rushed to hospital in an ambulance and I can not get a word out and have no idea where I am - at the Royal hospital in London lots of tests are done - blood tests, put on a drip etc and after a debate about having to be kept in overnight I am finally released at 8.30pm. So close yet so far - no medal but I am aware how bad it could have been.
-----------------
It is getting close now!
Sunday - 10k run with MK parks trust
Tuesday - Last run 5 miles
Wednesday - to London Arena to collect race number (49310)
Thursday - Snowing!! To Citizen offices (local paper) for photo

---------------
I must be approaching (or past) a mid life chrisis, as I have decided to go for the London Marathon on 13 April 2003 and only a few days to go before the event - look out for me at the event or on TV and cheer race number 49310. After the day come back to this site as I hope to post my race time on the Sunday evening (if fit to sit at the PC).

The Lunchtime runs have progressed to half marathons in Milton Keynes July 2002(1 hour 53 mins) Great Barford December 2002 (1 hour 48 mins) Watford February 2003 (1 hour 47 mins) the new London Half Marathon - at Silverstone!! (1 hour 46 mins)and the Reading Half (1hour 48 mins).

Then the mega undertaking, and Bedford Harriers 20 mile road race at Oakley, North of Bedford, completed this in 3 hours 7 minutes, but, with cramp in the legs and very tired. Next and the last race before London was 16 miles in Milton Keynes, at the Open University, completed in 2 hours 18 minutes. Please sponsor me online, If you are a UK taxpayer your donation will be increased by almost a third at no cost to you. I appreciate your donation. Any amount will make a difference but please try to give generously! Many thanks. Martin
