Mencap - Liverpool Idol · 9 July 2009 ·

Mencap wants a world where people with a learning disability gain an equal right to choice opportunity and respect. We believe that support for the families and carers of people with a learning disability is vital to achieving our vision

Story

You may already be aware that Mencap is running a pop-idol-style charity event called Professional Liverpool Idol on Thursday 9 July 2009 at the Pan-American, Albert Dock, Liverpool.  I will be representing Halliwells at the event.  As you can imagine, I took huge amounts of persuasion before agreeing! ;)

I've chosen a song at long last.  I'll be singing "Dignity" by Deacon Blue.

We had our first vocal coaching session on Tuesday 16 June, which was amazing (if terrifying).  Our vocal coach is Jennifer John, who runs the Sense of Sound choir in Liverpool, so it was gruelling.  On Tuesday 23 June, we had the first rehearsal with the band, A Few Good Men, which was the most exciting thing ever!  Also, I've just finished an interview on the Billy Butler show, which involved singing live on BBC Merseyside.  This is starting to feel very real now!

I've just found out that the judging panel will be Jennifer John, our wonderful vocal coach, Dean Sullivan (AKA Jimmy Corkhill) and Billy Butler.

The format of the night is that each contestant does their bit in front of a live band and the expert panel and, at the end of the night, the audience have the opportunity to vote for their favourite act.

Sponsored by Professional Liverpool and Medicash, Professional Liverpool Idol 2009 is hoping to raise at least £15,000 for Mencap, the ’s largest learning disability charityI am trying to generate as much support as possible.  Details of the event can be accessed at www.liverpoolidol.co.uk and it would be great if you could come along on the night to support me.  Tickets are £30 each (or £25 if you buy a block of 10 or more) but, in addition to being in support of a great cause, it will be a great networking opportunity - this may allow you to convince your finance directors to assist with the cost!

I'm having so much fun doing this so, please, please, please... make it for a good cause and sponsor me now!
