ZOV is a small children's charity that works with children living in institutions in Bulgaria. ZOV means 'appeal' in Bulgarian, and we fund projects that help the children to lead happy, stable lives and to fulfil their potential.

Bulgaria has the highest number of children in institutions in the European Union and the second highest number in continental Europe (after Russia), institutions that severely limit their chances in life. Whilst ZOV supports the goal of de-institutionalisation within Bulgaria, it works to help address the many difficulties experienced by children who are in care today.

I have decided to cycle the 1000km Brighton-Glastonbury-Land's end-Brighton Route starting June 17. After realizing that I won't afford a proper bike for touring long distances, I realized that the old bike that I'm using at the moment will need to be "tuned" to perform.

The whole journey should take about about 3 weeks. A few days from Brighton to Glastonbury. Raising £1 for every kilometer travelled would be an amazing amount to fundraise. The donations go to the "Penyo and Maria Velkovi" Children's home in Veliko Turnovo, Buglaria. The donations are trasferred from this website to the charity weekly. The donations do not go into my account in case you worry that I'll spend it on beer! So please dig deep and donate! ;)

(For UK taxpayers: Make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation)

In case you are interested to learn more about the cause, this is an article written by someone who has witnessed the conditions in which the children in institutions in Bulgaria live.

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/columnists/article5720609.ece

http://www.zov.org.uk
