Hi everyone
I don’t know what happened to the cool cloudy weather that was predicted. I did find it warmer than I would have liked but I shan’t make any excuses… I completed the race in 4 hours and 8 minutes - it would have been great to finish within 4 hours but the last few miles were pretty hard. Having said that, I feel reasonably happy about my performance as I was able to run continuously for about 21 miles and then took a dip before a final rally for the last mile or so.
I really enjoyed the atmosphere for the first half. There was tremendous support from all the spectators and all the runners were in good spirits too. There was lots of music including one man standing on his doorstep playing the trumpet, some brilliant steel drums and the inevitable “YMCA” to which we were all doing the actions. Although the support was great in the second half too, I think we were all rather more focused on running but it was helpful to hear people calling out my name and encouraging me during the low points.
Would I do it again? Well there’s still that 4 hour target to beat ….
I am still receiving the last few donations for The Brigitte Trust – everyone has been so generous and as you can see I have far exceeded my target. Here I am soon after finishing looking rather tired.
All in all, it has been a pretty successful challenge – I think you’ll agree. Thanks for your support!
Martin
