My story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online. I have been a Haslar Visitor for just over one year.  To get to Haslar I often use the bicycle as I derive much pleasure cycling through some really nice scenery.  There is much to see in the UK and, for me, a bicycle is one of the best ways of doing this. This is my first solo adventure and I am cycling all the way from Felixtowe in Suffolk to the Shetland Isle! It forms part of the North Sea Cycle Route and I will be cycling just over 1400 miles.   I have now competed the whole of the England and Scotland sections of the North Sea Route. I  have been very tired at times but this has been made up by the magnificant scenery I have passed through and the many very nice people I have met.

Haslar Visitors Group arranges for trained befrienders to visit asylum seekers in IRC Haslar (a prison where they can be kept indefinitely). It also helps asylum seekers living free in Portsmouth, providing advice, food, money and a social centre. Asylum seekers are not allowed to work and get, at best, 70% of British benefits. Some wait years while their cases are considered.
