As I'm sure you all know, our darling mummy and wife, Mary, passed
away on Sunday the 2nd of May. She was suffering from cancer and was
being cared for at St Chrisopher's hospice, Sydenham.
We initially had
lots of preconceived ideas about hospices - being depressing places
where people were just waiting to die. We couldn't have been more
wrong. St Chrisopher's is a truly amazing place - filled with music,
laughter and wonderful people. The nurses and staff were fantastic and
there was nothing they wouldn't do for her or for us. From the moment
mum arrived she was so comfortable she considered it home and this
enabled us to really treasure the time we had left together.
The hospice only receives 30% of its funding from the local authority, for the remainder it relies upon donations - in fact, City Ward, where mum stayed, is totally funded by donations. This little page is a chance to give something back to St Christopher's - to thank everyone that works there and ensure they can carry on offering the same wonderful care and kindness to as many as possible. So those of you who wanted to buy flowers for the funeral please donate here instead. Mum would've loved this.
Thank you so much,
Ken, Katharine & Jonathan xxx
