My story
13/04/08 - Today has been an amazing experience and I am so glad that I took part. I got round in 4 hours and 54 minutes which given my ailments probably wasnt too bad but I will try harder next year!!!
12/04/08 - only one more sleep!!! Am now more excited about tomorrow rather than nervous. Been in the hotel tonight with Sian, Sue, Liz, Jamie, Keith and cousin Sal addressing our nerves with some champagne and a nice rjoca (only a glass each honest guv!) which i have been told will make me run faster.......
A big thank you to everyone who has supported me, it means a huge amount and i have raised far more than i ever expected for a very worthwhile cause. xxx
10/4/08 - currently sat at home throwing as many lemsips and ibubrofen's down my neck as I can to see off a cold that threatens to take hold. Am also wearing a not so attractive pelvis belt (!) in order to keep everything in place for Sunday - it keeps getting stuck in the wrong place you see which is quite painful and hellish when running more than 6 miles.... Should be up in Lancashire tonight helping Matt celebrate his birthday but unfortunately I need to get myself sorted - gutted! Funny how the threat of 26.2 miles shows up one's structural weaknesses....
16/3/08 - 20 miler done in the wind and rain, ready for anything!
11/3/08 - 20 mile practice run looms on Sunday....to say that I am not excited by this prospect is an understatement!!!
Reached my £4000 target today courtesy of Geezer (who was incapable of writing a message without cock up either that or he wants us to guess what his "massive relief" is!!) which is absolutely brilliant. Thanks to all once again!
24/2/08 - 17 mile practice run around Hemel Hempstead and not a pleasant experience! 2 hours 58 minutes of wall hitting.
3/2/08 - Completed the Watford half marathon in 2 hrs 11mins. Gently undulating hills it said in the course information, absolute rubbish, they must have been drunk!! As for me sobriety the night before did not help and if someone had told me to turn round and run it again I would not have been responsible for my actions! Nick Bull - your comment below rang very true!! Roll on the 17 mile practice run on the 26th Feb. Ridiculous.
28/1/08 - had a cortisone injection in my knee on Friday as having a few issues, am hoping it will help turn me into some sort of bionic woman! Bit sore but hopefully I will have my running legs back by Sunday for the half marathon.....gulp :)
22/01/08 - Liz, Sue and I ran our first practice race on Sunday, a 10 miler round St Albans. Having never run that far before I was fearing the worst but I managed 1 hour 38 mins which I was really pleased with-quite respectable! Roll on the Watford half marathon on the 3rd Feb....minus the red wine the night before!!!
Thank you to all those who have sponsored me so far, I really appreciate it xx
17/12/07 - Amazing what bright ideas come out of a few glasses of wine!
I started training with two friends at the beginning of November in the hope that we would all get places in the London marathon for our respective charities and now that two of us have been confirmed so far the hard work really has to start! We are up to 9 miles already....only a mere 17 short of target so I suspect this is really gonna hurt but what an experience!
As some of you will know I started supporting Breakthrough Breast Cancer when a school friend of mine Ann, was diagnosed with the disease. After a lot of chemotherapy and radiotherapy Ann went into remission but sadly the disease returned and she passed away in May 2003 at the age of 27. Over the last few years other friends have also been diagnosed with breast cancer (namely Trina and Sandra) but thankfully both have been in remission now for over 2 years which goes to show there can be a positive outcome. The research undertaken by charities such as Breakthrough is helping more and more people beat this disease every year but clearly this work cannot continue without the generous donations made by family and friends supporting events such as this.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Breakthrough Breast Cancer will receive your money faster and, if you are a taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
I have to meet my pledge in order to run so please, please sponsor me! This is a charity very close to my heart and I would really like to raise as much as possible.
Thanks in advance your support really does mean a lot to me.
Mase xx
