Originally, my partner and I had planned to take part in the ChallengeMS 10km walk to raise funds for MS Society. Unfortunately, due to personal reasons, we were unable to take part in the walk. We had received enough support to reach the £100 fundraising target we had set.
To make up for us not taking part in the original walk, I have decided instead to run a half-marathon... Eek! I have also extended this page and set a new target as I now have six months to get into shape and raise more funds for this amazing charity.
Of course, I need to set some targets; my first being a 5km run in 8 weeks time.
Below is my original Just Giving story.
Although not a sufferer of MS directly it plays a big part in my partners and my own life. The strength and determination my partner has shown while struggling with MS has motivated me to join her in a 10km walk to help raise funds for MS Society.
Before I met my partner I did not understand what it means to have MS. For many, MS is a hidden illness: there may be no apparent symptoms. But beneath the surface a person with MS may have any number of symptoms: it is an illness that affects people differently.
A common symptom is fatigue. Do not confuse this with tiredness or what is usually considered as fatigue. Fatigue for an MS sufferer doesn't necessarily grow gradually like tiredness, it can happen quite quickly. The best way I can describe it (for unless you feel it, which I can't, you can't appreciate just what fatigue is) is that it is extreme exhaustion, which makes even thinking clearly a struggle.
Taking part in a 10km walk while suffering with MS is a huge personal achievement, and by donating to MS Society and sponsoring us on this walk you will be helping us to beat MS.
Thank you.
