Imperial Health Charity helps their hospitals do more through grants, arts, volunteering and fundraising. They fund major redevelopments, research and medical equipment as well as helping patients and their families at times of extreme financial difficulty.

Story

Last April, friends, family and colleagues of Barry Winter got together to play an 11-a-side football match in his memory.

Barry died in 2008 at the age of just 37 following a battle with a rare form of cancer, cholangiocarcinoma. He loved playing football and we felt this was a fitting way to remember him.

Our initial target was to raise £1,000 for the Imperial College Healthcare Charity. In the end we raised over £5,500 thanks to the generosity of many people.

Barry is still so much in our thoughts, and we are keen to mark that by holding another event.  This year the challenge will be even greater, as we will be pitting ourselves against the mighty Radio Forth All Stars.

Funds raised this year will again go to the Imperial College Healthcare Charity. The team we're funding at Imperial College is looking at the causes of cholangiocarcinoma and how to diagnose it at an earlier, operable stage, as well as considering new drug therapies.

Anything you feel you can give would be greatly appreciated by all of us, particularly by Barry's wife Helen, his daughter and the rest of his family. Crucially it will help others diagnosed with this cancer in the future.

If you want to come along and watch the match it would be great to see you there.  The game takes place at Ainslie Park (home of Spartans FC http://www.spartansfc.com/ainslie-park-2/) on Sunday April 25 and kick-off is at 2pm.

Thanks for your support.
