Sue Ryder is here to make sure everyone approaching the end of their life or living with grief can get the support they need. There is no one size fits all when it comes to how we cope and the help we need, but with our support, no one has to face dying or grief alone. We are there when it matters.

Story

Welcome to the ‘Match the Pigeon’, Pigeon Sponsoring page.  My name is Nicola Woodhead and I am helping out on this exciting new project with my son Chris in order to raise vital funds for Sue Ryder Care – Manorlands Hospice .  As I work for Barclays I am able to double what is raised on this site up to a limit of £750 therefore your sponsorship of £10 for a pigeon will raise Manorlands Hospice £20.

Below are the Pigeons numbers and names sold so far, as you can see there are still a few left, please help to sell them all.

Match the pigeon takes place on Sunday 13 September 2009 at The Bolton Abbey Estate near Skipton. Participants can walk one of 4 routes of between 2 and 8.5 miles, whilst 50 pigeons fly home to Skipton from 168 miles away. The walkers must try to cross the finish line at the same time as the first pigeon arrives in its loft. To take part in this event go to www.matchthepigeon.org

Please try to keep your pigeon name clean as the names will be listed on the ‘Match the Pigeon’ webpage www.matchthepigeon.org , displayed at the event and the winner will be published in the press afterwards. Please also put a contact number in case we need to get in touch with you or in case your pigeon wins!  You might also wish to place in the comment box a request for your preferred number (1to 50).  If the number has already gone we shall just give your pigeon the next nearest number.

In the week leading up to the race pigeons will be numbered from 1 to approximately 50 based on the ones with the lowest to highest identification No. on the ring on their leg.  The pigeon which is first home on the day will win the person that sponsored it dinner for two in the Michelin starred Burlington Restaurant at The Devonshire Arms Country House Hotel & Spa, Bolton Abbey.

All the money from this event and the sponsorship of the pigeons will go towards the Manorlands Hospice 35th Anniversary Appeal to raise £1.3 million which will help them to give an even greater level of care to the 600 plus local people they care for each year.

Thank you for your generosity, I, Chris and all at the hospice are most greatful for your donation.
