PHEW! 26.2 miles down and the legs survived . . . just!
I would like to first say a MASSIVE THANKYOU to everyone who has sponsorsed me and given their support. It has been your very kind donations and best wishes that kept me going, not just along the 26.2 mile route through london but through the tough long winter training and when a few niggles krept in, the support and donations made by you for a terrific charity, BOWEL CANCER UK, made every single step of the way worthwhile.
The aim of doing the London marathon was however to raise £2500 for BOWEL CANCER UK, a target that is getting ever closer and with your support, we can reach it!
I suppose we are all quite ignorant to many of the illness's and diseases out there until they are stricken upon ourselves or our friends and loved ones.Only then do we really step back and realise the implications and effects they have and to coin a cliche saying that you really dont realise what you have until its gone, or the threat of it is staring you in the face.
My dad was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer a couple of years ago, very much out of the blue. Only then was it that i understood the severity Bowel cancer can have. Someone every 30 minutes dies from this in the UK making it the second most common cause of cancer death in the UK.
Fortunately the cancer was diagnosed early enough to undertake appropriate treatments and the cancer was removed successfully and thus far has been prevented from coming back. But thousands are not so lucky!
£2500 is nothing for what i owe bowel cancer UK in their part they have done in treatming my dad and providing him with the best surgery and care that is out there.
Early diagnosis is key to making this cancer treatable. Raising money for Bowel Cancer UK will help fund further awareness of the symptoms and treatment of this form of cancer and to further fund its pioneering research into the causes and treatments so that more lives can be saved.
Its really never easy asking for donations, but please any amount, no matter how big or small will help make a difference, even just the price of a drink all adds up!
A HUGE thankyou once again

Many many thanks
Matt
