Each week at least twelve young people in the UK die suddenly as a result of undiagnosed heart conditions. At Cardiac Risk In the Young we aim to save young lives & to help those affected by young sudden cardiac death (YSCD). We do this by providing support, information & screening those affected.

Story

As some, or all visiting may know, my brother Mat died suddenly of an undiagnosed heart condition on 1st February 2008.  This was a great shock to all of us, more so as Mathew was a very active person.

And so, I am going to take part in the London Marathon on 25th April 2010 in memory of my brother Mathew, to raise money for CRY and to help raise awareness to the fact that even young people can unfortunately be affected by heart conditions.

The marathon is just over 26 miles long so it's no easy feat!  I'm hoping to raise at least £2000 and so whatever you can sponsor will be greatly appreciated, even more so if you could stretch to £1 a mile!

CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) is a charity that tries to raise awareness to the fact that 12 apparently fit and healthy, young people die a week, from undiagnosed heart conditions.  CRY defines a young person as someone aged between 14 and 35 years old.  Therefore a wide spectrum of people can be affected without any noticeable conditions.

Money raised will not just help the charity, but some of the money will also be put into the 'Mathew Blease Memorial Fund' which is then used to cover the cost of a Mobile Screening Unit.  This unit travels the country testing young people for signs of possible heart conditions.
