SEER GREEN TO OXFORD · 22 September 2007

Our vision is that patients with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses in our area can choose how and where they want to be cared for towards the end of life. We provide 24/7 responsive Hospice at Home care and support for all the family during the illness and through bereavement.

Story

WHAT HAVE I DONE? Well I rode from Seer Green to Oxford as planned. But as I had some energy left when I got there, I decided to try and ride back. I got lost. Arrived in Aylesbury exhausted after my 65 mile trek. And all of that with a serious case of man flu. (STOP PRESS - Just been to docs and man flu is officalliy chest infection and I m on anti biotics! I didn't mention ride to her...)

WHY? Since my dad passed away from cancer a few years ago, and a friend's dad sufferred the same fate a year later, I have pledged to do 1 event every year in their memory. The only criteria is that it has to be a challenge. Year 1 we climbed Bowfell in the worst weather conditions. Last year was the marathon walk when I had the joy of food poisoning. And today the man flu bike ride!

WHY IRHH? Both our dads passed away due to cancer. My dad never actually had the benefits of IRHH nurses, but Richard's dad did and they were incredible. There cannot be a more difficult job in the world than nursing the terminaly ill and I have the utmost respect for them. IRHH have also been fantastic to deal with when setting up the events. I know you will all be asked for money on a regular basis, but I am asking just once a year to please donate a couple of quid to what is the most worthwhile of causes.

If you are wondering why I didn't ask for sponsorshp before the event. Well I never thought id' make it.

Many thanks

Mat
