Well, the count down has started and the training has begun. The London Marathon is just over 15 weeks to go. Andree and I are hoping to raise £2000 each for The Prostate Cancer Charity so £4000 in total. Help to support and spur us on and help a great cause at the same time.
Monday morning, a Happy New Year to all! Now 3 months, 21 days and 45 mins until the marathon. Had a good run in near artic conditions with Andree yesterday afternoon, while the Kids were at my parents. 10 miles in just over an hour and a half and we both felt ok. Feeling good about things so far. I now have raised 2% of my total, a good start!!
Wednesday, and training has been snowed off for me today. :( Andree has managed to have a good run at the gym. We both managed a 5 mile one yesterday. Hope to get the tennis rackets on the feet tomorrow and try and venture out!? Thanks for the support so far - now at 5%.
Tuesday 12th Jan - Well snow has continued to affect play but we have both been trying to keep going. Andree has had the easier task - going to the gym and clocking up some miles on the tredmill. I have managed a few runs in the snow / slush and even clocked up almost 9 miles today. Our targets are over the 10% mark - thanks for all your help so far.
Tuesday 26th Jan - All running training has been going full steam ahead. We did a 14.5 mile run the weekend before last and Andree did a 10 mile at the weekend whilst I ran 8.5 miles today. 26 + miles still seems a fair way a way but we are getting there slowly. Finding time to run between work and family life is the main challenge but so far we are giving it a good go. No Donations for a while.... come on! Help us and help the Prostate cancer charity!!! ;)
Now towards the end of Feb - we have been away on holiday for two weeks and this is the first week back into it. We did some running while we were away but minimal. It was a bit hard for the first few days but we are back into the swing of things and fast approaching the Tunbridge Wells half Marathon as a bit of a warm up race for the London Marathon.
28th Feb - today we did the Tunbridge Wells half Marathon and completed a challenging run, both in course design and weather, in a good PB time. A bit tired and sore but good preparation. Next we need to up the milage to push our training further.......
Well 5 weeks today we will have hopefully completed the challenge. I have sucessfully avoided injury skiing and injury through football (season now pretty much over - last game is the day before the run and needless to say I won't be playing). Now it's full focus to meet the challenge. We completed an 18 mile run last weekend which was hard but we did it and it gave us the belief that we will make it in 5 weeks time. The main issue now is trying to up the sponsorship total! Please help us to reach our target and help a worthwhile charity. Thanks.
Now just one week to go. Training has gone well and we are both excited about the big day. The last week is a much more gentle running week, trying to conserve energy for Sunday. Thanks for all the support and sponsorship we are getting there! Well the countdown is getting closer..............
Well we did it!
We completed the 2010 London Marathon together from start to finish despite me not feeling too great for the last 6 miles and finished in a time of 3 hours, 53 mins and 57 secs.
Thank you once again for all your support to us and your donations to The Prostate Cancer Charity.
Matt and Andree.
