There is a very good reason behind taking on this huge physical and mental challenge. On Thursday 13 August one of my closest friends, Matthew Hatton was killed in action in Afghanistan, he was the first York soldier to be killed in the conflict and hopefully the last, this was obviously devastating news not only for me but his family and all that knew him. My loss was great but the impact Matt had on me and others was greater, I am so inspired to join his family to ensure the loss of an all too short life is truely honoured and raise money for a cause that was always close to Matt’s heart, Help for Heroes, along the way. This is a fantastic charity that supports courageous soldiers who have been wounded in action whilst deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan.
