Matt's Great North Run 2010

BUPA Great North Run 2010 · 19 September 2010 ·
Hi. Thanks for taking the time to visit my fundraising page.
Earlier this year I lost my Father to Lewy Body Disease. It's a form of dementia my family and I had never heard of before, despite it not being all that uncommon.
It's is a horribly cruel disease, known as a Parkinsonism-Plus condition, robbing the sufferer of their memories, their mobility, their ability to communicate, their dignity and ultimately their life. It combines many of the symptoms of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, but crucially doesn't often respond to the drugs which can alleviate symptoms in those two conditions.
There's no cure, there's no reliable treatment, and it's incredibly difficult to diagnose.
I thought that if I was going to carry on entering stupid running events I should probably do so in Dad's memory, and try to raise a few quid for the Alzheimer's Society - they provide funds for research into Dementia, and support for people affected by dementia, both sufferers and families.
Matt
(I'm also running the Bupa Great Yorkshire 10k Run on September 5th, so you can consider this a 2-for-1 sponsorship if you like.)
