On the 12th OCTOBER 2008 my brother Nick, his girlfriend Kate, and I will be taking up the challenge of running the Chicago Marathon (26.2 miles) in aid of ‘The Elizabeth Foundation’, a pre-school charity in Portsmouth for deaf children and their families. (This will be after completing the London 10k on the 06th JULY 2008 and prior to the Great South Run on the 28th OCTOBER 2008!) The Elizabeth Foundation, founded in 1981, believes that every child should have the opportunity to learn to listen and talk, and their services enable even profoundly deaf children to fulfill their learning potential. Their greatest achievement is the high number of deaf children who have gone on to lead happy, successful and rewarding adult lives, with a voice of their own. I hope the ChicagoMarathon will raise vital funds for The Elizabeth Foundation as I have a personal stake in this particular charity. My son, Jacob, was born in 2005 profoundly deaf. Not only do I want to help him, but also the many other deaf children and their families The Elizabeth Foundation support. It has been with the tremendous support of The Elizabeth Foundation that Jacob is now beginning to communicate and say his first words.
The Foundation has launched a new-build Appeal, “RAISE THE ROOF”, where bricks can be purchased towards building work to double the size of The Elizabeth Foundation. We have set ourselves a fundraising target of £3000 between us towards this cause. I would greatly appreciate your help in reaching this target. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Kind Regards & thanks,
Matt
