Story

As many of you will know, Matt was not only a kind, thoughtful and sometimes mischievous person, but he was also a brave soldier who continuously pushed the boundaries to improve his strength, skill and confidence to enable him to do a good job throughout his career.

Matt started his career at the Army Foundation College in Harrogate at 16, he spent the next 7 years of his life fully engrossed with Army life. He was a highly motivated and enthusiastic soldier, who thrived on new challenges and he was always the first to volunteer when the opportunity presented itself.  He travelled widely with the Army serving in Canada, Cyprus, Arizona, Iraq and finally Afghanistan, where he was killed by an explosion whilst on foot patrol on August 13th 2009.

In honour of Matt, we felt we wanted to show him how proud we are of his achievements by pushing our own limits by climbing Kilimanjaro in March 2010. All money raised will go to Help for Heroes, a fantastic charity that supports and helps to rehabilitate wounded soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan. This was a charity very close to Matt’s heart and several of his friends will benefit from the Charity's support, we are therefore very keen to raise as much money as possible.

This will be both mentally and physically testing for each one of us, but we also have a minimum fundraising target of £3,400 each,  therefore fundraising is going to be also a big challenge especially as we only have a few months to reach this target.

If you could donate anything towards our climb it would be gratefully received. Or if you have any fundraising suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Thank you,

The Hatton Family
