Story
Having just finished University I have realised that in the UK we take for granted the opportunities that are available to us. Giving aid to others is a fantastic way of helping, but more beneficial is helping others to help themselves. Many of us have heard the idiom 'Give a person a fish and you feed them for a day. Teach a person to fish and you feed them for a lifetime.' It is with this in mind that I signed up to the International Citizens Service (ICS) and was offered a placement with Balloon Ventures (BV) funded by UK Government Aid. BV work with young entrepreneurs in East Africa to form their own businesses in the hope that this will continue for years after the initial 10-12 week placement. In order to take my place on this extraordinary journey I need to raise £800.
I am both anxious and excited to take part in this thrilling and worthwhile venture, however with the fantastic support of both ICS and BV, I am certain that this will be an experience that will have an enormous and lasting impact on communities which do not have the good fortune that some of us in the United Kingdom have.
Thank you for reading this far, (nearly there, I promise) I hope that anyone reading this can see the enormous impact that this will have and as a result donate towards the cause. However, if you are still in doubt then please do not hesitate to contact me, I will be happy to answer any questions, no matter how trivial. Any donation is gratefully received, whether 20p or £20.
Thank you once more.
Matt
