Story

Matt Nuttall is part of a four man team entered by Bolton Lads & Girls Club into the 2013 Talisker Whisky Atlantic Rowing Challenge. This is a 3000 mile rowing race across the Atlantic Ocean starting at the Canary Islands and finishing about seven weeks later in Antigua.

The team have raised over £115,000 so far which is being  used to ensure the club's Junior Mentoring Project can continue to offer  vital support to some of the most vulnerable children in Bolton. There is currently a waiting list of nearly 200 kids that the mentoring programme could quite literally make a life changing effect on their young lives and therefore we wanted to take on an extreme challenge that would raise both awareness and the funds needed to allow this not only to continue but do away with the long waiting list. The rowers are Mark Brocklehurst, Nick Griffiths, Matt Nuttall and Finn Christo. For more information or to see how the team is preparing for the race go to www.boltonatlanticchallenge.co.uk Thank you for supporting us in our challenge and helping the young children we have to protect.

Sports photographer Matt Nuttall is a passionate sports enthusiast whether behind the lens or when competing himself. He’s raised funds for various charities by completing an Iron Man; racing a motorbike across the Sahara; skateboarding from Glasgow to Manchester and by swimming the English Channel.

He does admit that he will dearly miss the two women in his life when away rowing - his partner Karen and his mum. However he is greatly encouraged by their enthusiasm for the row and that they’re so delighted he will be out of the country for several months!
