My story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

In 2008, I was delighted to support Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice with generous sponsorship of my first marathon in Paris. Delivering the cheque via a 11 mile run in uniform, with the accompanying endorphins and excitement I leapt at the opportunity to secure the hospice's only place for the Flora London Marathon. Running for BBW is a real privilege and one I'm determined to make the best of, with your support!

Since that first run, the hospice has opened its doors and now continues to provide support to families in the community but also end-of-life and palliative care in its custom built facility - all of which takes quite some resourcing. The care and compassion given to families is not available in the region from any other source and Bluebell Wood only operates through public donations.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

Still up for grabs is the main kit sponsor, who will get pride of place on my training and race kit - front and centre! Someone (slow!) is also bound to spend the race staring at my back, give them a treat - why not sponsor the reverse?

The first 10 sponsors to pledge £100 will also receive 4 places on a family 'Meet the Force' Day, where you will get the chance - young and old - to visit our dog training centre, meet some other four-legged friends (our horses) and at our Operations Complex, explore our helicopter, underwater search kit and fast cars. Lucky mums and dads (and maybe even kids) are promised a press of the blue lights button!

Any donation, however large or small is truly welcome and in these difficult financial times, even more so. If every SYP employee could find 50p, the thermometer would be half full!

Last year for me personally was all about 'beating the bulge' - this year it's about achieving the stretching goal of fundraising (whilst battling crime, snow, injury and domestic building work!). Your support counts to me - but above all, to many children and families in need.

Don't wait to see a paper sponsorship form - it's the 21st Century! Please pledge on-line to ensure Bluebell Wood have all they need to claim Gift Aid.

With my very best wishes and appreciation, Matt
