THE BALLOON RACE
A fantastic day, a lot of hard work culminated in 1,000 red balloons being released and lots of money being raised for both charities we support. It was quite emotional watching the balloons float away, each 1 representative of a heart child. Thank you to those who supported us and those who helped out. We aim to do more events in the future.
We made it into the local paper and ECHO's newsletter so read all about us!
Thank you x

UPDATE - Matthew has had his 2nd open heart surgery at the Evelina and been a total superstar. He came through everything amazingly well and with only a few expected hiccups is now home with his family only 5 days after the op. Our heartfelt thanks go to the wonderful team at the Evelina especially Mr Anderson - surgeon for his great skill and expertise. Without their wonderful work Matthew would not be with us today. We cherish every day we have with Matthew.
We are supporting this charity ECHO because we have first hand experience of the wonderful work they do.
Our son Matthew was born last November with a serious congenital heart condition called hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS) where only half the heart works. This meant he was rushed from Lancashire to the Evelina Children's hospital at St Thomas' London for life saving open heart surgery at 4 days old.
We needed to go to the Evelina as it is one of only a few hospitals in the country with the expertise to treat Matthews condition and we could not have asked for better.
After 10 days in intensive care where his life was saved time and again he spent a few days on the cardiac ward and we made use of valuable facilities provided by ECHO. Matthew was transfered closer to home but soon become extremely sick again and once more was rushed to the Evelina intensive care for more life saving surgery. We stayed in London for 5 weeks in total and when your so far from home support and care are important.
ECHO can provide that support to families like ours and facilites and equipment to aid a stay in hospital. We will need to return to London many times over the coming years as this condition is lifelong and further open heart surgery is needed most iminently in June this year for the 2nd stage of his 3 stage surgery. Once again we will benefit from the work ECHO does. Visit their informative website at www.echo-evelina.org.uk
We want to help ensure that good work continues and as such hope to raise funds through a varity of events over the coming months.
This starts with a balloon race launching from Matthews big sisters school on July 16th. Balloons are just £1.50 each and if you donate through this site we will add you to the hundreds of others launched on the day.
Please dig deep and donate online.
We are also supporting another children's heart charity Little Hearts Matter www.lhm.org.uk who work for children and families like us where children have only half a functioning heart. Visit our other page www.justgiving.com/mattsheart and please give generously.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: ECHO at Guy's will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please donate now!
Many thanks for your support.
