Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

My name is Maurizio Borgatti and I work for Computer Aid International. On the 7th May 2010 I intend to set off, with a team, on a sponsored 4 day London to Paris Bike Ride. All the money I raise (I hope to surpass my target!) will go towards the continuation and expansion of the work of Computer Aid International (registered charity number 1069256). Please visit our website to see more information on our projects.

For those of you that know me through my tennis activities I have calculated that my trip of 196 miles will be the equivalent of cycling around a tennis court 4,539 times! Some of you that have seen me play may feel this would be a more productive and entertaining use of my court time.....

Computer Aid International celebrated its 10th anniversary in April 2008 and today it continues to take in donations of computers and laptops, refurbishes them and sends them to not for profit organisations such as schools and hospitals in the developing world, for use in education, health and agriculture. To date Computer Aid International has shipped almost 160,00 PCs to where they are most needed to the poorest and most disadvantaged communities in over 105 countries including the UK.

Our aim is to help reduce poverty through practical ICT solutions, and as well as providing computers, we develop partnerships with organisations overseas that provide training and technical support to recipients to ensure the immediate, productive and sustainable use of the equipment. We also support e-waste recycling initiatives to ensure sustainable end of life solutions once equipment can no longer be used.

As a fair weather and short distance cyclist this will indeed be a genuine challenge for me, but I totally believe the end result will more than justify any saddle soreness and I do get to see Paris from a bike! I do appreciate you taking time to visit my page and I hope I have managed to convey the need and value of your support.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Computer Aid International gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor me now!
