Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. The Tag Rugby Trust is working to re-establish the game of Rugby in Mbale, a township of almost 100,000 people 150 miles North East of the Ugandan capitol, Kampala. A rugby ground was opened in Mbale in 1967, but gradually fell into disrepair and it has only been with the support of the Tag Rugby Trust that the venue, the game and the Mbale Elephants club has been revitalised.   This has led to a resurgence of interest in rugby and now over 2000 primary school boys and girls in Mbale have been introduced to tag rugby, a primary school tag rugby teachers committee has been set up, secondary schools have started to play 7-a-side tournaments and the Mbale Elephants are regularly playing in the national league. The final part of the Mbale jigsaw will be the completion of the new community focused rugby club and the provision of a ‘home’ for the game in the town and the region which matches any in Uganda. “The Tag Rugby Trust and the rugby people of Mbale have done a magnificent job in re-establishing the game in the community and hopefully our visit will help to magnify that interest.” said England Counties Manager Michael Old. “Equally importantly, however, is the fact that rugby’s core values of teamwork, inclusion, respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship are important building blocks in the character any individual on any continent and if we are helping on that front, we’ll be doing a valuable job.” So please dig deep and donate now.
