Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. We've set this up to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care in honour of our wonderful mum, Sally McEldowney.

----------

EDIT: We did it!!! 1000k later we're all still intact and ever so slightly fitter! We've also managed to raise a lot of money for a really good cause so all we can say is a big thank you. Donations kept arriving and kept us going the whole way through our trip and we really couldn't have imagined doing without everybody's support. If you haven't had time to donate yet and you're impressed, then it's never too late! More photos coming soon....

-----------

In typical McEldowney style, even though this cycle trip has been planned in our heads for nearly a year, it's only now that we've managed to plot the (almost) exact route of our cycle challenge and open this magnificent sponsorship page. So please help us make up for lost time and make a donation straight away to help us out!

On the 25th August, 3 brothers, 1 dad and close friends the Harries family, with varying degrees of fitness, health and years will be setting off on an epic 1000k cycle trip from Paris, through the Alps and on to Provence in the south of France.

We're targeting 100km per day over a 10 day period and we need your support to reach our goal to raise £4000!

Here's our route:

Why Marie Curie Cancer Care? Why France?

Basically it's a way of remembering Sally, our fantastic mum and saying thanks to Marie Curie Cancer care who made an enormous difference in caring for her so well in her last few weeks.

Over the years our mum passed on her enthusiasm and love for all things French to the whole family and so it seems only fitting that we remember her by pedalling our way through the places she loved and we discovered together.

We mentioned this cycling idea to her just before she passed away and she loved it. She was so grateful, as are we, to Marie Curie for the amazing work they do in making life a little more bearable for sufferers of terminal cancer. Until you see the work they do and can appreciate it first-hand, its importance is really impossible to grasp. Last year Marie Murie cared for 31 000 cancer patients at the end of their lives and we now know just how much of a difference this made to them and their families. Obviously care of this quality requires a lot of money... and this is where we all step in!

So, if you could dig deep and donate a small sum now to help us in our challenge we'd be very very grateful. Once you donate by pressing the button below, JustGiving will send your money directly to Marie Curie and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.

Thanks!!

Owen, Chris and Ben McEldowney

p.s. we'll be updating this site with some of our fundraising exploits and will also be providing updates from the road - so pop back from time to time to see how we're doing and give us a boost!
